Creative Baby Shower Appetizers

Sooner or later all of us girls find ourselves planning a baby shower for somebody! How can you kick start the party with creative baby shower appetizers that won’t involve being  about finding time to make them?

Let’s face facts: Most of us work. A lot of us have kids and husbands. We have a hard enough time feeding them on time, let alone a party of people. And although the movies make it look like a pregnant lady will eat anything, we know our BFF is gagging on the veggies she used to love and struggling with odors of the foods she used to long for. Appetizer combinations need to be healthy (at least somewhat, right?), appealing, and yummy—especially for the future Mommy!

The simplest creative baby shower appetizers that take little time to prep might mimic your nibblers from Superbowl. A cheese and cracker tray, fruit tray, veggie tray, Buffalo wings, deviled eggs, loaded nachos, and pigs in a blanket are instant hits everyone will dig. Tortilla chips and dip are classic, but keep in mind your guest of honor. Salsa might be causing her extra heartburn these days. Try something just as yummy and easier on her tummy: Spinach and artichoke dip. If you can squeeze in toasting time, slicing a French Baguette from your local bakery into bite-sized rounds and toasting them on a cooking sheet in the oven for 5-10 minutes can complement nicely.

For those of us who are a little more daring: Sweet and Sour Meatballs. If you make meatballs from scratch, just roll smaller bite-sized balls and cook them. If you’re like me, cheat a little by purchasing the mini-turkey meatballs at the grocery market. Just pop them in the oven and create a very simple sweet and sour sauce while they bake:

Simple Sweet and Sour Sauce

 2 Cups of Ketchup
 2 Cups of Grape Jelly
 1 Tbs. of Lemon Juice

Cook on low heat, stirring often until the ingredients blend together into a thick sauce.Toss the meatballs onto a serving platter with toothpicks. Keep the sauce close by for dipping. You’re sure to have added a fantastically quick and tasty addition to your entourage of creative baby shower appetizers!
